Why are head shots so important?

One of the main reasons that head shots are so important is for the client. For example, if you are passing out business cards most of the clients want a head shot of the photographer, just so they know who's gonna be doing their pictures. First Impression is very important with photography. Not only will the clients see who the photographer is but you can show off your photographic skills. Most likely clients will choose a photographer with more skills and more years of experience with photography.
